Synopsis
Wolverine V3 # 36 - 40, Wolverine Origins # 1 - 5: Memories are so dear
Writer - Daniel Way
Pencils - Javier Saltares (V3), Steve Dillon (Origins)
Wolverine is in Japan, looking for someone. He attacks the Prime Minister and gets on SHIELD’s radar (shit list). You see, Logan regained all of his memories, and now shit is going down.
Wolverine fights and beats Silver Samurai by cutting off his hand. (Wonder if that will stick). W finds his way back at Dep H, of course. W learns that Bucky helped W escape, however there is some history between these two.
They get in a fight and Bucky beats W in a fight, lathered in oil. Bucky says he killed W’s wife and daughter, which brings us to the origin series and a flashback.
Ogun recommended that W find a better life. He stayed at a peaceful town and married a woman, Itsu. She got pregnant. She was killed by the Winter Soldier. Wolverine seeks out an evil man, Muramasa (and the Muramasa blade), to get revenge.
W attacks the White House. Someone sends a missile short of the WH. A Shiva shows up and incinerates the Sec of State, which is who W was after. SHIELD is compromised after W embarrassed them.
The gov releases Frank (dude with flag on his face = Nuke) to kill W. Turns out W sliced up his face years ago and created the monster during the Vietnam War. W killed Nukes babysitter when he was a kid, then the dad killed himself. Kid Nuke killed his mom.
Wolverine fights Captain America. Cap would have lost to W if not for the X-Men (Emma, Scott, Hellion) who help him stop being possessed by the blade. Emma tells W that his son is alive! His son had his healing powers and survived after the mother was killed. He gives the Muramasa blade to Cyclops because he knows that if the time comes to put him down, Scott won’t hesitate.
Wolverine Analysis
It's crazy to think that I've been reading Wolverine comics for 26 years (of publishing) and yet he JUST NOW got all of his memories back. Also, it's one thing to know in the back of my mind that he was likely a piece of shit, but to hear that he went around murdering innocent babysitters and stuff is bothering me. Also, it isn't sitting right with me to learn that he tortured Duke Nuke 'Em (or whatever his name is.)
Storm V2 # 1 - 6
Writer - Eric Jerome Dickey
Pencils - David Yardin
Picking things right back up from Wild Kingdom, the series follows Storm as a child in Africa. But first, we learn that her parents left NY due to racism.
As a streen urchin in Cairo, she steals a camera from a white man and uses her budding powers to escape. She’s learning to be a better thief from a new "Teacher." However, the white man pursues her, as he is looking for a "wind rider." The white men eventually catch up with Storm.
One of the white men tries to rape an unconscious African. A young T’Chala saves the woman, and Ororo.
T’Chala hangs around the village. Girls want to bang him. He questions the teacher about encouraging thieves, but he only has eyes for Ororo.
Ororo and T'Challa go on a several day walk, build to making love.
Meanwhile, the men come again. They kill all the villagers except for Teacher and his daughter (Storm's rival and the one who was almost raped). The white man throws Teacher out of helicopter when he learns he is Wakandan.
Big white guy (Bull) fights T'Chala, brother tranks him. Storm and T’Chala beat the white men. Storm masters her power to save TC. Storm and TC wander off happily together.
Storm Analysis
I really liked this story. It's crazy how edgy it was. I would be down with reading more realistic things like this. Maybe I need to read more Image Comics. Anyway, one of the main reasons I liked this is because we've always vaguely heard it explained that Storm was treated like a Goddess in Africa, but with the exception of a single panel in Giant Sized X-Men, we never really got to see it. (It's also possible I'm forgetting something). I also felt relieved because the Wild Kingdom story casually mentioned a past fling between Storm and Black Panther. This might not seem like a big deal to most readers, but to the guy who's ready every X-Men comic for 5 years straight...this was a big deal. I thought I missed something, but now I'm relieved to know that the comment was setting up this future miniseries.
Black Panther# 14 - 16: The Proposal
Writer - Reginald Hudlin
Pencils - Scot Eaton
BP recounts the Storm series to Luke Cage (his best man). BP left Storm in their youth to avenge his father, which took Storm some time to get over. BP gets bitched out by Storm in the modern era for leaving her alone as a child (before she became a Goddess).
However, BP proposes. Some clown, The Arabian Knight, attacks the BP, interrupting the proposal. A true one note villain.
They bang in the ship and form a storm. Lol.
BP’s mother tells Storm that he never stopped loving her. Storm says yes!
The XM find out…W tells NC that neither of them ever stood a chance. Cyke mad they lost one of their best team leaders. Kitty bitches them out for not being happy for her. Go Kitty!
Forge is jealous. They show a bunch of different ppl reacting.
Concern for security, which is warranted. Hydra attacks Storms grandparents, the Americans on her fathers side. BP and Storm show up to save the day and escort them to Wakanda.
Uncanny X-Men Annual # 1 and Wolverine # 41: Side Missions
Writer - Stuart Moore
Pencils - C.P. Smith
5 mutants (Bishop, Psylocke, NC, Rachel, and Cannonball being ambushed like Blackhawk Down. The warlord is actually her uncle. Storm meets her grandmother on her mother's side (African royalty).
Meanwhile, Storm is in a dream after an attack. In the Adversary’s world with Forge. They keep making out while mutually agreeing it won’t work. Weird.
Later in the dream, she is with Jean in NY, asking her what she’s scared of? Later, there is Kitty talking about found family.
The Black Panther sends W to an African country to get a baby girl out.
Black Panther# 17 - 18: The Bachelor Party & the Wedding
Writer - Reginald Hudlin
Pencils - Scot Eaton
During a press conference, Storm talks about how she’s been oppressed for being African, a woman, and a mutant.
Luke Cage is planning the bachelor party. He asks Wolverine if he “Hit it” and W says no. I don’t buy it. The Black Panther only accepted the invitation to his bachelor party because of Wolverine's side mission in W V3 # 41:
“You looked out for storm during her journey back through Africa. When I asked you to secure a package for me, and bring it to safety, you did. For that, I am grateful. So when you extended an invitation to me, I accepted.”
Storm on a shopping spree with Kitty and Sue Storm.
Storm needs to go through a black panther ritual, and she gets pissy because she’s saying that whether she passes it or not, she still expects to stay with T’Challa. But ultimately the Panther God licks and accepts Storm.
This is taking place during Civil War and Iron Man and Captain America are in each other‘s faces. They argue fiercely and both leave.
The Watcher shows up, but nothing comes of it!
Kitty is Maid of Honor. They get married without issue. Dr Doom offers them peace and they agree to go to Latveria for their honeymoon.
Cable & Deadpool # 24 - 25: Spider-Man and Cap
Writer - Fabian Nicieza
Pencils - Patrick Zircher (24), Lan Medina (25)
Cable secretly hires DP to investigate the corruption of the Secretary of Homeland Security. (Hmm, I just realized now that Wolverine was trying to talk to her before she was killed by Shiva).
DP fights Spider-Man, and then steals the plans to a teleportation device.
Nick Fury asks Captain America to investigate Cable and Providence. He spends weeks there and really likes it. Cap and Cable have their obligatory fight though. Cap learns that Cable carried his Shield in the future. Cable stole the two most recent pieces of tech to give him a form of telepathy and TK back.
Cable & Deadpool Analysis
I'm really not a fan of what they are doing with Cable. It bothers me that it's Fabian Nicieza writing this too because he is essentially a Cable co-creator right alongside Leifeld. They've had this whole "misguided Messiah" thing going on in this series, and now they are trying to tell us that Cable carried Captain America's shield in the future. I just feel like that's taking things too far.
Also, I love Deadpool. I know it's cool to love Deadpool, but now I genuinely do.
X-Men Unlimited # 14: Boring Shit with Colossus
