Synopsis
X-Men Volume 2 # 177 - 179: The Sapien League
Writer - Peter Milligan
Pencils - Salvador Larroca
Sentinels show up at the mansion, but don’t attack. Lorna is powerless, but hiding it.
Bobby is powerless, but still fighting Sentinels.
Lorna gets taken behind enemy lines and Havok freaks the fuck out. Goes as far as to punch Scott when he tries to settle him down.
We eventually see Lorna chatting with Val Cooper (I like the X-Factor connection here) and she/we learned that the Sentinels are being piloted by humans. They are there for the X-Men's "protection."
The Sapien league (a new group of human bigots) attacks the mansion and the Sentinels are around to help. Colossus and Psylocke fighting goons too.
The Sapien League leader, the Leper Queen, holds a gun at Bobby’s head and his powers come back. Turns out that Bobby was only repressing his powers and the fear of death, plus Emma, freed him.
Lorna is leaving to find a space aliens and Havok’s going with her.
*An archaeologist may have found Apocalypse in Akkaba. I'm down with a good Apocalypse story. It's been a few years.
Uncanny X-Men # 466 - 468: Grey’s End
Writer - Chris Claremont
Pencils - Chris Bachalo
Rachel spends time with Jean’s family. She was a wonderful time playing basketball with her grandpa and he was even going to teach her how to dance. They end up having the entire extended family over...and then disaster strikes.
Jean/Rachel’s whole family is assassinated by Shi’ar mercenaries (Death Commandos) to make sure that the Phoenix genes are completely eliminated. All of the Grey’s killed except for Jean’s mom and then...Holy shit. Jean’s mom says that she wished Jean and Rachel had never been born, and slaps Rachel. All this right before Jean's mom is killed too.
Wow. This just makes me think back to Inferno when I kept thinking Maddie had killed them, but then was relieved when they were left alive. This is brutal. I fear this will be similar to when Colossus's parents were killed for a little shock value in an inconsequential story, but I guess this is Claremont we're talking about here, so if anyone can feel this is the right thing to do, it's him.
Also, Scott and Emma try to get the Sentinels off their lawn with Val Cooper
Cable & Deadpool #18: Cable Grows Up
Writer - Fabian Nicieza
Pencils - Patrick Zircher
Everyone (Cable, DP, Siryn, and Sam) is back to the prime reality, 616, without House of M influences. In a loose explanation to explain why Cable is no longer dead after sacrificing himself, Baby Nate was teleported between worlds as reality shifted back. To further the loose explanations, Baby Nate is getting older and will conveniently stop growing once he's the same age as we typically see.
Someone (Black Box) brainwashed DP to kill Nate. X-Force captures Black Box’s info, Nate and DP back to normal. The X-Force team consists of:
Forge
Sam
Tabby
Siryn
Shatty
Warpath
Cable & Deadpool #19: Flashbacks
Writer - Fabian Nicieza
Pencils - Patrick Zircher
This is essentially one of those one off stories that they write in advance and print when Fabian needs a vacation or something. Cable ages up and tells a story of a time he had to blow up an alien ship to save his crew. DP tells a story about his mom and dad dying young.
Cable & Deadpool # 20-23: Bosom buddies
Writer - Fabian Nicieza
Pencils - Patrick Zircher
DP fights with the Bosom buddies (Diamondback, Black Mamba, the Asp) as they were both contracted to steal a microchip. Luke Cage and Iron Fist show up. DP & C fight LC and IF as you would expect. It's your classic case of two teams fighting a misunderstanding battle. Classic.
Both realize DP’s friend, Weasel, is lying. Turns out the villain, “Black Box,” is behind the stealing of the chip so he can become omnipotent (or close to it). C and DP defeat the Black Box but there was no one in the suit. The villain is actually some dude who I feel like I should know, but don't, and am too lazy to look up who they are. Sorry, this story was pretty boring so I'm moving on. Bad blogging, I know.
Generation M # 1 - 5: The impact of House of M
Writer - Paul Jenkins
Pencils - Ramon Bachs
A reporter (Sally) tells the story of mutants who lost their power, starting with Chamber who is on life support after being left with an exposed jaw, neck, and chest. Poor guy. Stacy X is a whore no one wants without her pheromone powers.
Jubilee lost her powers too.
The central plot here is about a murdered who is killing former mutants and leaving a sign saying that “not enough of them died.”
The Blob (who is powerless and essentially a lump of skin) agrees to help Sally. Sally goes to an insane asylum and sees that the three remaining mutants now lord over everyone else. Dani Moonstar also lost her powers and she's pretty upset about it.
Later, the murdering mutant throws a dead body through Sally’s windshield. A mutant who can no longer fly jumps off a ledge to her death in front of Sally. Beak looks normal now and told Sally she can interview the X-Men. Marrow still has powers and leads the Morlocks. Warren’s wings appeared to have shrunk, but in the end it was all a rouse to get the murderer (who was a mutant) out of his hiding spot. He's pretty easily stopped.
Son of M # 1 - 6: Quicksilver’s demise
Writer - David Hine
Pencils - Roy Allan Martinez
Quick Silver (QS) no longer has powers and is moping around. Spider-man is depressed because he used to have a son. QS jumps off a building and Spidey tries to save him. Crystal shows up too late. Quicksilver broke his spine, but did not die. Crystal brought him to Atillan to be healed. He breaks in and tries to ingest Terrigen Mists. It turns out that Pietro can move forward and backwards through time. There are now two versions of him working together.
He takes his daughter, Luna, to Earth and forces her to ingest the Terrigen mists. Luna is then able to see inside ppl. QS goes to Genosha and cures Callisto, Unus, Freakshow, and Wicked with the mists, but not all is it seems. The mists are giving ppl powers but with terrible flaws. Callisto has her heightened senses, but they are so strong she goes insane and ends up in a coma. Freakshow gets stuck as a monster. Wicked accidentally brings back her parents, who scold her. Unus's unbreakable shield gets too strong, blocking out oxygen.
The inhumans start a war with mankind (or just America) to get their crystals back. (This seems like a big deal).
At the end, QS is acting like a crazy person, giving mutants powers, not caring about the consequence.
X-Men: The 198 # 1 - 5: Who’s left?
Writer - David Hine
Pencils - Jim Muniz
Amara and her hot blooded boyfriend were making out in a volcano on M Day when he lost his powers and got incinerated. Tough break right there! I love how this character was specifically created to be killed in this one scene. That's a bit lazy, but it was also kind of fun so I won't complain.
Toad helps a mutant exotic dancer as Purity attacks. The government is rounding up the remaining 198 mutants and keeping them locked down at the mansion for "their protection."
Mr M. (Absolom Mercator, who made his first appearance in District X) shows up at the mansion (which is now an internment camp for the 198.) Absolon (Mr. M) is seduced by a mutant prostitute while on site. A blue mutant (Jazz) is coerced into coming to Xavier’s.
Valerie Cooper tells the 198 they can only leave if they agree to be tagged with a homing beacon. However, Mammomax gets angry and his tag shocks him. Johnny D, a mutant with a beast attached to his belly, is making mini clones of the remaining 198. Johnny D kills the blue clone (Jazz) and it kills the real guy.
Erg starts a riot screaming that it was the tag who killed Jazz. Absolon leads a bunch on inmates out of the jail.
Kitty is bitching out Val, but I'm still shocked that the X-Men would go along with this. Val being manipulated by her superiors. Fitting that it was Kitty (who is Jewish) that is most opposed to an internment camp setup.
Erg is controlled by Johnny D. Absolon vows to protect his ppl. There is a battle with the XM but Johnny Dee makes Leach sap Mr M, then Magma burns him alive.
Johnny Dee tries to make a deal with the government
X-Men Unlimited V2 # 13: Pathetic former mutants
Creatives - Hugh Sterbakov, Damon Hurd Sean Scoffield, Clay Mann
Story 1
Mesmero/Vincent loses his powers and is pathetic.
Story 2
Mark Hawkins was a mutant with the power to create fantasies, but after M Day he snapped out of it and realized that his whole life was a lie, including his wife.
Characters
Havok
His love for Polaris is completely blinding him, however it seems as though he wins her over from Bobby by the end. He even punches his brother as he tries to settle him down. This kind of bothers me because Chuck Austen made a big deal to show that he loved nurse Annie, but now all of a sudden he loves Polaris? I know the X office is trying it ignore Chuck Austen, but this bothers me too much.
Polaris
She is completely de-powered and tries to hide it at first. I like that Milligan is continuing the theme of Lorna struggling with emotional problems. It appears by the end that she is leaving the team to figure out what the hell she saw in space. If we are supposed to know or have a hint, I must have missed it.
Iceman
At first Iceman didn't have powers, but we learn that he was supressing them. Now his powers are back, but his love (Lorna) has left with Alex. Once again, another clear sign of him being in the closet.
Rogue, Gambit, W, & NC
Other than learning that these 4 retained their powers, nothing of note has happened with them.
Psylocke
They continue this theme of her being overly flirty (or slutty), this time dancing around and stretching in front of the Sentinels. It's Claremont doing this so I'll give it a pass, I guess.
Rachel
Man, this girl's life blows.
Bishop
I had to go back through a second time to see if he even made an appearance.
Cannonball
He's here, but there was something I didn't like. They show him picking up Psylocke and asking her for a kiss. It was weird enough when Beast was flirting with her, but now the good 'ole boy too. I can't get behind that.
Storm & X-23
Neither are with the team's any longer. Storm is staying in Africa. X-23 is joining Academy X.
