House of M Synopsis
House of M #4 7/20/2005 Brian Michael Bendis Olivier Coipel
Wolverine is the first to realize that the House of M reality is a sham. He runs into human heroes, led by Luke Cage, and begins convincing them that the world is wrong. They run into a young mutant girl (Layla) who remembers everything too. They eventually discover that she has the ability to "wake people up." The affected person then remembers everything from this new reality, in addition to all of their original members. Wolverine starts by waking up Emma Frost.
This REALLY messes some of them up, such as Spider-Man. In the real universe, Peter Parker's original girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, died and he married Mary Jane Watson. They had an average life together, but they were happy. In this new reality, Gwen was not only alive, but married to Peter. To add insult to injury, Mary Jane was a super successful actress. This makes Peter live with the fact that Gwen died because of him and Mary Jane's life may actually be worst by marrying him. Brutal!
House of M #5 8/10/2005 Brian Michael Bendis Olivier Coipel
The team awakens Scott and Peter Parker (oops I got ahead of myself in the blurb above.
Also Kitty, Dr Strange, Carol Danvers, Iron Man, Daredevil, She Hulk, Mystique, Rogue, Toad, Nightcrawler and other's were awakened. SHIELD Red Guards attack but the girl makes them remember.
The Pulse #10 7/27/2005 Brian Michael Bendis Michael Lark
Hawkeye freaks out to a reporter. This is basically a short story about Hawkeye learning that while he's alive and kicking in the House of M reality, he is actually supposed to be dead, killed by his good friend Wanda. This REALLY messes with him and will actually be relevant later on.
Captain America vol. 5 #10 9/21/2005 Ed Brubaker Lee Weeks
This is a short story about Cap's new life. Steve became an astronaut and pressed for peace between mutants and humans. Peggy left him for not being pro mutant enough (I thought the House of M was supposed to make life better for everyone? Maybe just better for mutants). Steve was blacklisted because he compared Magneto's rise to power to Adolf Hitler. Hmm, that's relevant to my reality too.
House of M #6 9/8/2005 Brian Michael Bendis Olivier Coipel
Those who woke up board a helllicarrier and Emma has them head to Magneto in Genosha.
Scott gives a chilling speech about how they can’t hold back like heroes because they must win. This is a pretty big deal because even though Scott is always a tactical leader, he's basically saying that this is the most important battle they have ever faced and they must win at all costs. I would love to read a short story that highlight's exactly how far he was willing to go.
Speaking of Cyclops, I want to take a second to be thankful that the House of M didn't bring back Jean. That would have been an easy, headline-driving plot point. Scott needing to choose again between Emma and Jean. I'm glad they didn't do that, it just would have been too easy. Also, the fact that they didn't helps cement the fact that Scott and Emma are meant to be together, a fact I bet people were still sensitive too at the time of publication.
There are 3 attack teams. Emma, Cloak, and Layla try to wake up Xavier (who they think is being held in Genosha, Magneto's power base. Dr Strange takes on Wanda in the Astral
Plane. Everyone else is basically just fighting
House of M #7 10/12/2005 Brian Michael Bendis Olivier Coipel
Rogue absorbs Genis-Vell and Namor to become ultra powerful! In the astral plane, Dr Strange learns that this was not Magneto’s idea, but Pietro’s!
Holy shit! I honestly didn't see this coming, but it makes perfect sense. He's always been kind of a prick and it just didn't feel right that Magneto would (or could) manipulate Wanda into creating this world. I feel like if that's what he wanted, he would think he could just do it in the real world, you know?
Hawkeye shows up and shoots fucking Wanda! Damn. Layla wakes Magneto up and he's FURIOUS. In his fury he attacks and kills Pietro. He's like "How dare you do all this in my name!?" Wanda brings him right back and then says the famous line: “No More Mutants”
House of M #8 11/10/2005 Brian Michael Bendis Olivier Coipel
The avengers gather, and those who remember, are distraught. Those who are not triggered, do not have any memory of it.
At the X mansion…most mutants are now powerless! Scott and Kurt go after W because without his powers he would die, but Wolverine is still powered (of course).

The blob is de-powered and full of saggy skin. Bishop still has his powers. Surge still has her powers. A bomb goes off in the Paris X-Corp branch. Jubilee & Callisto are de-powered. A new agency called The O.N.E. is running point on mutant control (lame storyline). Back door X Factor pilot with MM, Rahne, and Guido all still with powers. Lorna still has powers (or so we think). Scott tries to order Storm to come home, but she decides to stay in Kenya.
